Hope you all are doing well! Hopefully everyone has been enjoying the warmer weather and the increased daylight! For certain spring is on the way and with the spring comes time to start thinking about the garden! We ended our 5th season strongly with 971 lbs. of produce donated, and hopefully we can shatter that record for the coming growing season.
I would like to hold our first Gardeners meeting for this season on Sunday, April 10th 2016 at 10:15AM in the Church Library (pending availability). There are plenty of things to discuss for the coming year.
This year, I’ve decided to limit the number of tomato and pepper plants I grow indoors, in favor of relying on transplants instead.
I wanted to point to one of my favorite sources for plants, the Rodale Institute. They are holding their usual two plant sales and are as follows:
April 8th-9th: 10AM-4PM: The Garden Store has the best selection of organically grown lettuces, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, chard, herbs, trees, shrubs and more!
May 20,21,27,28: 10AM-4PM: This would include tomato, peppers, eggplant, squash and more!
If there is sufficient interest perhaps a group field trip would be in order.
There are also many workshops that are little or no cost to attend:
Rodale Institute: 611 Siegfriedale Road Kutztown, PA
Also wanted to draw your attention to a Gardening related movie being shown called “Can You Dig This” at the ArtsQuest Center Wednesday March 30th, 2016 at 7:30PM. You can purchase tickets at: http://www.steelstacks.org/event/2319/can-you-dig-this/. I know a number of us will be attending.
Thank you and look forward to seeing you all.
